Many of my clients come to me after some kind of emotional trauma to do an empowering photo shoot to heal.
How Did I Get Here?
Honestly, this is a difficult post to write. I am a lawyer. I deal with people's catastrophic problems every day and it weighs on me sometimes. In about 2019, I had to take a break from it. Part of me was broken inside and I turned to art to help me deal with the emotions that I felt inside that I couldn't express because I didn't know how. All I knew is that art made me feel good. I am an artist. Artists capture and express emotions. I put my heart and soul into what I do and I draw a certain energy of people who resonate with that. Along the way, I began focusing on myself and my healing journey from a number of things in my life that were causing me heartache. I made a video about my healing journey here:
Ever since I began focusing on my healing journey, I have drawn many clients who shared with me that they were also going through rough times and, like me, have sought out art to help them work through some of their pain. This is something I felt too when I did my own boudoir photoshoot.
Relationship Trauma
The number one issue that people have shared with me is that they have recently come from abusive relationships where their self-worth and body image was attacked and they were left feeling less than. Some people look to boudoir shoots to reclaim their sensuality in a safe environment. These clients have come looking to regain confidence and, in many instances, doing something they always wanted to do, but were too afraid.
I work really hard to show my clients what a safe environment we have here and I am so honored to be part of the healing journey for those who have trusted me to help.
Body Image Issues
A lot of my clients deal with body image issues, something I have struggled with since the second grade. One thing that I have learned from photographing people from 19 to 75 and all body types is that the sexiest thing anyone can do is be confident. Sometimes it takes some uncomfortableness stepping out of that comfort zone, but I love sitting down with clients at the end of a shoot and showing them the unedited full galleries so they can see themselves through my eyes. I think everyone I work with is beautiful.
Dark Feminine Energy
I get a lot of clients who come in and talk about doing the dark feminine work. Dark Feminine energy is the confident, wild, carefree, passionate side that often gets pushed to the side because of societal taboos and expectations. A boudoir shoot is a great way to explore the dark feminine energy. Dark Feminine pictures don't necessarily mean that the pictures are dark and moody, but rather they showcase power, confidence, and taking up space without caring what others think, which is the best reason to do a boudoir shoot in my opinion.
A lot of clients are surprised by my crystal collection, my library on plant witchery, and the fact that I know that I'm an Aries sun, a Virgo moon, and a Scorpio rising. I do a lot to keep good energy in the studio. I have the four elements represented in my studio - the fireplace is my fire element, the waterfall fountain is the water element, my crystal bowls are the earth element, and the aerial apparatuses are the air element. We keep good energy in the studio to make it an awesome place for healing and positivity.
